How many more must die?

This morning we woke up to the deadliest mass shooting in American history, that took place overnight it Las Vegas. I am saddened. The past 30 days have been filled with both natural and man made disasters. Despite all the destruction taking place among us, many people refuse to wake up.

Despite your political conviction, you must reject hate and bigotry. The irony of this heinous crime is that it was not committed by a “Muslim”. It was committed by a white American male. So far authorities have not discovered any ties to Islam. Be that as it may, this horrific act confirms that you do not have to be a citizen of a country on the “travel band list” , or Muslim, Black, Brown, to engage in terrorist acts and perpetuate hate and evil.

My heart goes out to all those families who lost loved ones due to this evil act. My prayers are also with the injured. We must wake up and realize that “hate on hate” is even worst for this world. If we adapt an inclusive approach to fighting terrorism and evil attacks, we will be more successful. No matter what race or religion we are, we must all understand there are good and evil people in every race, religion, country.

These are serious times. A lot of people are losing hope. Some people are looking to their leaders to save them. Others like myself, rely on God’s grace. We cannot talk from both sides of our mouths, whereby, in times of crisis we preach unity and in times of victory we utter racial sentiments and breed divide. Our message must be consistent. After the deadly hurricanes, We witnessed people from all races lending a hand. People from all races and countries are giving back to Puerto Rico, Houston, Dominica and the list goes on. That is how powerful we can be together. We are all facing the same issues despite the color of our skins.

It is time for us to come together and fight anyone who is evil, despite race color, creed or class. Instead we are focusing on stereotyping a particular group or race of people. Today is a sad day in our country once again. We seem to have had a month full of sadness from hurricanes to this massacre in Las Vegas and attacks around the world. When are we going to wake up and come together and reject evil and racial divide?

Does it make sense to promote racial supremacy? Or do we have more to gain from creating racial unity? God created us equally and differently, so we can blend. But some people are not getting it right. How many disasters would it take for us to understand that regardless of race, religion or political conviction, we must all come together to fight and reject hatred and evil? How many more have to die before our Congress passes the right legislation to do something about gun violence? How many more have to die before we unite as one race,; the human race?

I have never seen anyone waiting on a heart or kidney transplant ask the race , religion or political conviction of their donor before accepting the organ. All they care about is the fact that they got a match to save their lives. Let us therefore move forward together as a human race, as if our hearts and kidneys relied on it. We all have to live in this world. You decide if you only want to live here with people who look like you.
