“Kween” Business

This Is “Kween Business”

I was asked recently by a stranger, “What do you do for a living?” I smiled politely and responded, “I am in the ‘Kween’ business.” The person seemed confused and you might be to, so let me explain.

Growing up female and black was both a blessing and a curse. I was not surrounded by too many people who had big dreams for a girl like me. The only advice was to get a good education. Not bad, but not enough without a big dream. I had to dream big on my own. When I was growing up, no one looked at me and said, ” You are pretty and you can achieve anything you put your mind to.” I am not mad at anyone for this, but I am simply speaking my truth. When people know better, they do better.

I was also surrounded by women of shades of brown, who did not want to be labeled as black or preferred to be categorized as mixed. To be fair, when you do your research, you will discover that most of us are mixed. Overall, I was surrounded by people trying to put a label on you and there were advantages and disadvantages to your label.

As I navigated my childhood experiences, I decided to create my own labels. Labels like “Queen” and “Fabulous”. In my mind, all women are “Queens” regardless of the color of their skins, if they would only believe and accept the title. Many single women are out here looking for a king, but a king is only looking for a queen. Treat yourself as such. When you know in your heart that you are a queen, you operate as such. Your perception of yourself will attract the treatment you deserve. Men will come correct!

When you join the “Kween” business you only hang with “Queens”. You will not allow another woman or man to take away your title by the treatment you accept. This is “Kween” business. What are the qualifications to join this  business, you may ask? Your personal standards. You treat others as you would like to be treated. You don’t answer to ever dog that barks after you, as you are too busy living your best life. When you see women treating other women badly or bad mouthing them, please forgive them. People will only try to pull you down when they feel like they are beneath you. They have never felt like queens one day in their lives, so they do not know how to receive a queen.
