We all have mountains we have to climb. Some days the climb is easier than others. For me, my mountain is staying fit. I have been maintaining happy and healthy, but my fitness has been my mountain. It has not been easy to do so as a wife, mother and a woman with a career. Here are “8 Tips For A Healthier You”:
This first thing I did when I started my fitness journey was to change my diet. I have always ate well (or so I thought), but as I grew older, I realized that certain foods had to go. I replaced rice with cauliflower rice, and quinoa. I also eliminated flour.I developed a prefer for healthy starches like sweet potato.
I came from a culture where there are no restrictions on the amount of food you can have on your plate. The more the merrier. I eventually recognized that my stomach did not require as much food as my eyes and my emotions wanted. So I started using smaller plates to assist me in reducing my portions.
I also made up my mind to commit to developing a consistent exercise routine. I had to recognize that losing weight, becoming fit and toned, is not a sprint, but a marathon. It requires consistency and dedication. Therefore, I have to stick to my routine even when I travel abroad. Increased cardio is key to attaining your fitness goals, in order to increase your metabolism. Develop a weekly schedule that includes regular exercise, even if it means waking up an hour earlier or going to bed an hour later.
I also started following other health and fitness enthusiasts, who are showcasing their fitness journey and results online/ on social media. This is very inspiring. It helps when you see others achieving their weight loss and fitness goals.
As you get older, your metabolism slows down, as such the earlier you have your healthy dinner, the more successful you will be at attaining your goals.
I am still trying to achieve the goal of increasing my water intake. However, I have eliminated drinking juices with my meals. I have replaced it with water to increase my water consumption.
I love fashion! A good tip I got when I started my journey was to buy a few clothing items one size smaller. It is very encouraging as the scale does not always work in your favor when you embark on your fitness journey 🤣. However, the inches never lie, and your clothes will let you know when you are making progress.
We all have hurdles to cross. However, if you can climb the fitness, healthy, happy hurdle, you can seriously live your best life. If you have not yet developed a passion for healthy living and fitness, please do so today. It is one of the hardest things you would ever do, but it is worth it. #justdoit
