What Does Fabulous Mean To Me?

By Basia Alicia Powell

If you are a member of my inner circle, you would know that I use the word fabulous to define my husband, and some of the people in my life that I admire and love. I also use the word to define myself during the years when hardly anyone truly believed in me. I had to discover my own “fabulousness” to be able to believe in myself. What can I say? It was worth it.

Fabulous is not a word I use lightly. It carries a lot of value in my mind. It recently dawned on me that when people hear me use the word, particularly when I describe my husband, it may sound like I am describing his physical attributes, (which happens to be a 10, 😜), but no, I am actually referring to his entire being and his approach to loving himself and me.

When I use the word fabulous to describe someone, including my self, it is used to communicate worthiness and respect. In some cases, the external appearance ties into the description, but it is never the reason for the label. It is truly a combination of personality, character, sincerity, trustworthiness and having a heart of gold.

Fabulous defines character and presence combined. Both of which comes from within. Fabulous is lasting. It speaks to who you are as a person. The label is never determined by the way people see you, or treat you. It is ascribed to you based on the way you see and treat yourself and others. It is a bold confidence that inspires an individual to always give of their best, and do things in a particular manner. It is a shine that outlasts beauty and vanity.

When I describe someone in my life as fabulous. It simply means that I enjoy being in their presence. They inspire me to be a better person. Their inner qualities are unmatched. Fabulous can never be paired with deceitfulness, selfishness or a lack of self confidence. It is a combination of the exact opposite.

We can all strive to be fabulous. You can dress fabulously and still feel like a hot mess when you get home and remove your clothing and make up. However, when you love the body (curves and all) you are putting those clothes on and, you are very comfortable with the soul on the inside, then you are ready to bring fabulous along with you, everywhere you go. You would not have to tell people, they will see it.
