Today marks exactly one year the United States and other countries around the world, started shutting down. It was on March 11, 2020 that most of us recognized that we were in fact facing a pandemic, as a result of the Covid19 virus. Since then, we have lost millions of lives, as many of us have lost loved ones. Some people lost businesses and employment and others have lost their minds. It is safe to say, we were all caught with our pants down. There was no way for us to imagine this disaster or to prepare for this catastrophe.
When I think about this period in our lifetime, the feelings that come to mind are, panic, anxiety, depression, death, financial ruin, hopelessness and the list goes on. It is safe to that the Covid19 pandemic did “a number” on our mental health. For the first time in my lifetime, I witnessed the entire human race under seize. It was the classic example of how a global disaster, can eliminate the assumed privilege possessed by those occupying a seat in the upper echelon of the wealth pyramid. We were all subject to closed borders and government mandates,like masks and social distancing. Our scientists went into overdrive, in search of the highly anticipated COVID19 vaccines. The longer they took, the darker the tunnel became.
The Vaccine Is Here
Today, there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel, as we are faced with multiple versions of the COVID19 vaccine. Our scientists have delivered. I was fortunate enough to receive my vaccine yesterday. Words cannot describe how grateful I felt when we drove up and received that first shot of the vaccine. I was never so grateful for a vaccine. It means that I will be able to see my relatives and close friends soon.
Thank You To Our Healthcare Workers And Scientists
More than anything else, I would like to take the time to say a special “Thank you”, to all our healthcare providers and scientists. Many of us had the luxury of being able to quarantine and work from home or with close relatives. On the other hand, our doctors, nurses, scientists and healthcare providers did not have the luxury to run for cover. They covered us by remaining on the frontline trying to save lives, caring for the sick. We quarantined impatiently as our scientists searched feverishly for a vaccine to save the lives of those of us fortunate enough to be alive.
Today, we all feel hopeful, as massive vaccinations have begun. We still have a long way to go. I urge you to continue listening to and supporting our healthcare authorities. They deserve our support. The least we can do is show our gratitude through our support of their regulations and safety measures. I know it must have been hard for our healthcare staff and their families. To our healthcare workers and scientists, I wish to say thank you, thank you. I just want you to know that your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. We would not be able to make it through this horrific nightmare without your support.
