ASK BASIA VIDEO PODCAST 4

“The Importance of Building Confidence In Young Women?

It is not easy being a woman. Particularly a woman of color.Women are constantly judged for having too much confidence or too little. We are sidelined for being too qualified or not qualified enough. The glass ceiling is not very kind to us. We still have a long way to go achieve gender equality. However, this cannot be attained unless a woman is determine and confident enough to break all barriers.

Today I am joined by some phenomenal queens, Ms. Lesley Ann Bailey, Occupational Therapist, entrepreneur and a graduate of Howard University. Lesley is also Caribbean/Trinidadian. She is based in DC. I am also joined by Canadian/Trinidadian Nina Babel. Founder of NIBA Management Group. We had a wonderful discussion regarding the importance of building confidence in young women. Some recent studies, such as The Harvard Review, have suggested that persons with lower self confidence levels are more likely to succeed. I beg to differ. I believe that there is such a thing called “quiet confidence”. I also feel that some people can be very confident about their abilities, but still have low self esteem. People can be brilliant, however, their low self esteem can be an obstacle.
