A TASTE OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

I have to say that the city of Savannah, which is a mere four hour drive from Atlanta, is the best kept secret in Georgia. If you are looking for a small city with a charming European vibe, then Savannah is the place for you. No need to spend the big bucks to fly to Europe, as Savannah, Georgia has maintained its historic European charm, and still oozes the architectural design of a modern Europe. The most sought after part of the city is River Street. As the name implies, a major river runs separates the city center from the rest of the Savannah. This stretch is also lined with 5 star hotels and the best restaurants.

The street surfaced are littered with cobblestone surfaces much like the cities of its early inhabitants. Hotels in the vicinity carry premium prices, but it is worth it. The down side of our trip was the long waiting list to be seated at the popular restaurants. Many of the restaurants do not take reservations, ( at least during our stay) and this made it difficult to find reliable spots to have dinner. Overall , I would give Savannah Georgia an 8 out of 10.

CARTAGENA, COLUMBIA

After surviving this pandemic, I felt like I owed it to myself to leave my comfort zone immediately. This decision meant traveling to countries I would not ordinarily explore. At the beginning of 2022, I had the opportunity to blog about Cartagena and I grabbed it with both hands. I wanted to shake up every area of my life and I also promised myself to become fluent in Spanish, particularly after my trip to Panama and Mexico. In January, I decided to ‘wet my cautious feet’ by booking a flight to Cartagena. Let me just say, I do not regret this decision. Cartagena left me extremely satisfied, yet wanting more. I am now travel curious.

I can’t explain what I love most about this Columbian city, from the historical preservation and fusion of Spanish and African cultures, through food, art, dance and architecture, to the vibration of the people. The nightlife and restaurant scene is off the charts. I had so much fun, I will be back for sure. I will give Cartagena a 9 out of 10! (The only reason I did not give my trip a 10 is due to the significant language barrier. I was surprised to find that not many people in Cartagena speak English at the hotels and the airport. I feel any country that relies heavily on international tourism should place an emphasis on including staff members who are bilingual.)

PANAMA

We spent Christmas 2021 in Panama . It was exactly what we needed. We were completely exhausted from a full year of work etc. We heard so much about their famous ceviche, so we booked a flight to experience the best of Panama. Of course we had to visit the famous Panama Canal. If you are a fan of eco- tourism, Panama is the place for you. We stayed at a hotel that was driving distance to the city and the Panama Canal, but close to decent beaches. It was very relaxing and peaceful. I hope to visit Panama again to experience life in the city. Overall I would give my trip to Panama a 7 out of 10!
