Before I arrived in India, my husband promised to take me to an authentic Indian Restaurant in Mumbai. Obviously, I was curious, and excited as I love Indian cuisine. I have been to several versions of Indian restaurants around the world, but none in India, until now.
Dining at South of Vindhyas restaurant, was a delightful and informative experience. The management and staff were so kind and courteous. I love their ethic attire and flavors. I was impressed with the array of spices and pickles.
I also enjoyed eating on the banana leaves. My favorite dish was the Lamb stew 👌🏽💕.
Here is what I ate at South of Vindhyas:
Appetizers
Peppery Tangy Mushrooms (Koomu bharted)
( A coorg specialty of fresh button mushrooms tossed tossed in garlic, spiced with pepper and finished with a hint of coconut vinegar. Stewed with tomato chutney and laccha onion.)
Cabbage Vadai ( Assorted Cabbage Fritters) < Andhra Pradesh>
( A deep fried snack made from ground lentils and other basic homemade masalas)
Served with malli chutney and pickled onion.
Main Course
Spicy Tangy Prawn Curry ( Royala igguru)
Andhra style prawn in spicy masala curry.
Served with:
Kerala Flaky Bread (Malabari Parotta)
Lamb Stew (Adu ishtu) < Kerala>
(Coconut flavored lamb and potato stew, spiced with pepper.)
Served with:
Rice & Lentil Pancake (Appam)
(An authentic soft rice and lentil pancake cooked in traditional appam chati)
Dessert
Banana Fritters ( Pazham Pozhi)
(Batter fried stuffed bananas, served with icecream.)
